Induction

As part of the process of welcoming you to the Trust, and to provide you with information on this organisation, it is mandatory for all staff to attend the Trust Induction on the first day of employment. This is followed by local induction where further information and advice is given to ensure that you are familiar in your new surroundings and in a position to perform your role safely.

Trust Induction is organised in such a way that you will get a chance to meet and register with Human Resources, register or reactivate your Smartcard and meet with Occupational Health.

Induction Day is a very busy day, with lots going on. If you are in a position to register with HR and/or obtain clearance from Occupational Health before you start then please do so.

It is essential that you attend all aspects of induction (Trust and Departmental) as it covers various statutory and mandatory requirements to allow you to work in this Trust. It is also important to familiarise yourself with other areas/sites where you may be working during your time with us as each site has a number of additional requirements which reflect the differing staff complements and work carried out there. In particular, be familiar with the local Cardiac Arrest Team organisation, Acute Pain Service organisation, and Labour Ward.

Inevitably, a number of rules are necessary in order to maintain day to day running of the department. We hope that you appreciate that these are primarily for the broader benefit of both staff and patients. There are many policies, procedures and protocols that you need to be familiar with. Amongst other things these are intended to convey to you the agreed standards that we consider to be important in safe clinical practice. They also establish the situations for referral where help and support may be needed. We pride ourselves on being an extremely supportive department, and the consultants wish to be involved at an early stage in the patients' treatment.

These can all be found on the Trust intranet and Box app. They are updated from time to time and it is your responsibility to familiarise yourself with all local and Trust Policies. You should also keep up to date with circulated notices on clinical practice from the department, The Association of Anaesthetists and The Royal College of Anaesthetists.

There are other elements of statutory and mandatory training that you are required to complete during your time here. Further details of these are highlighted later in this document but we must impress on you the importance of reading further and completing all relevant training.
