The anaesthetic registrar is based in paediatric theatres and when on-call:
- Carries the 1061 bleep
- Coordinates activity in paediatric theatre & recovery areas.
- Carries out a paediatric pain round daily and nightly, and takes paediatric pain calls out of hours.
- Attends paediatric trauma calls and cardiac arrests
If there is no activity in paediatrics, you are expected to help out your colleagues in other anaesthetic areas.
We encourage you to liaise with the trainee on PCCU. Establish whether it is a paediatrician or anaesthetist covering the unit and if there are any patients which may need your input.
Do not agree to help out with other cases (or in resus) unless you have discussed with 1220 and have a backup plan to make sure there is always enough anaesthetic staffing for paediatrics.
