College Tutor

A College Tutor is responsible to the Royal College of Anaesthetists for the local administration of training within their Department of Anaesthesia. They are responsible for organising your training within the department and ensuring that you have been allocated an Educational Supervisor.

Educational Supervisors and appraisers

Each trainee must have a formally appointed educational supervisor who will provide, through constructive and regular dialogue, feedback on performance and assistance in career progression.

It is the Educational Supervisor’s responsibility to oversee the trainee’s training and ensure clinical and educational progress. Appraisal is an informal confidential process designed to assist both the trainee and the Tutor to achieve their aims for training and to identify and address any requirements at an early stage.

Appraisal should be viewed as a continuous process. As a minimum, the educational element of appraisal should take place at the beginning, middle, and end of each section of training.
