The obstetric anaesthetic registrars are based on labour ward and carry the bleeps 1326 and 1526. Responsibilites include:
- Running obstetric theatres
- Caring for women on the obstetric HDU
- Providing analgesia to labouring women.
If there is no activity on labour ward (please check with obstetrician and coordinating midwife), you can help out your colleagues in other anaesthetic areas.
Share the work between you, so that you can both take a break (speak to 1220 if it is so busy that neither of you can take a break).
Do not agree to help out with other cases (or in resus) unless you have discussed with 1220 and have a backup plan to make sure there is always enough anaesthetic staffing for obstetrics.
