Journal club (adult)

Wednesdays 07:45 - 08:30 : Organized by Dr. MacGloin and Dr. Roberts

The choice of journal article should be from a recent journal - the BJA, Anaesthesia, The Lancet, NEJM are all good suggestions.

You must email the journal article to both of the organisers, by the preceding Friday. This will then be forwarded to the entire trainee and consultant body so that they can read it beforehand.

Attendance at Journal Club is mandatory and an attendance register is taken. Please note, if you are allocated to a list with a Consultant you do not need to see your patients prior to journal club i.e. - don't be late!!

Breakfast is provided at the Wednesday morning journal club.

Educational meeting

Friday 07:45 to 08:30 : Organized by Dr. Allnatt

A Mortality and Morbidity Meeting takes place on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month, where the approach encourages a safe, supportive atmosphere in which to discuss cases which have been difficult to manage, perhaps are more emotive, but don't necessarily have lessons at the end of them. It is expected that these cases are to be presented by anaesthetist of all grades.

The remainder of the Friday morning teaching is the 'Coffee Club' and is used to promote our wellbeing and emotional learning through informal sessions where clinical (or other) experiences are exchanged and peer support is cultivated.

Scanning club

Dr Tim O'Neil runs the 'Scanning Club' teaching different regional blocks. This is held at 15:30-16:30 in ACAD recovery (3rd floor theatre complex), but days wil vary

Multi-track

Theatres start half an hour late one day a week to facilitate a programme of wellbeing sessions and educational meetings. This includes regular emergency team training with ODPs

The day of the week changes every 6 months (currently Wednesdays) so that the same lists are not always delayed.

See the latest programme in the department to see what sessions are planned.
